4.0 out of 5 stars So far, so good
Typically, I use a regular spring bar tool to swap watchbands. However, for a couple sport watches with tight tolerance, I've used these spring bar pliers. They are a bit fiddly to setup but worked well once I got the angle right. Case if very nice and convenient for storage. The bars themselves seem like they will be the weak point and may break with heavy usage.
1.0 out of 5 stars Sorry -- Not Recommended
I needed a tool to detach springbars from a metal watch bracelet which had very narrow spaces to grasp the shoulders for removal. After some research, I determined that a plier-type tool would work, as my regular small pencil shaped tool with a tip at one end would not. So I reviewed Bolo's offerings and chose this one. When it arrived, I thought it looked sturdy enough, with a set of 8 double ended tips. No instructions were included, but plenty of detailed directions are available online. It wasn't easy to align the tips when screwing them into the pliers, but after considerable adjusting, I could get them fairly even on either spring bar. However, this is where the operation becomes futile. While squeezing the two arms of the pliers together (properly positioned on the springbars) it completely deforms the tips before accomplishing anything. Once that happens, you must try again with another set. I went through all 8 attachments (16 tips) and got nothing but bent results. Very time consuming and a total failure. I resorted to having a jeweler remove the bracelet in about 30 seconds with his pliers. So while the price is quite modest and the tool itself is OK, poor tips make it all for naught. You will have much less frustration and far more satisfaction by handing 12 bucks to the next person you pass, and wishing them a pleasant day!
3.0 out of 5 stars So so…
Neither love nor hate this tool but I rarely use it because it is too finicky and getting a good purchase on the springbars is sometimes impossible
5.0 out of 5 stars Much higher quality than what is available in the watch repair "kits"
I bought a watch repair kit that included a tool to remove the spring pins on the watch body. The tool was very poor quality and didn't fit into the space provided. I ordered this product after that and it comes with multiple sizes of steel bits to fit the space allowed. It worked very well and I'm quite happy. I wish I had not wasted money on the kit I bought previously.
5.0 out of 5 stars Effective for quickly and easily removing a bracelet
Quickly removed my Explorer 214270 bracelet. It was not a great fit for the Rolex spring bars but it worked. It wasn’t so helpful putting on a curved end silicon strap but that is most likely due to inexperience and not choosing a better silicon strap than the tool. The “good one” of this tool is $200. This seems overpriced at $40. If you have a collection of high end watches you should probably spend the $200. I only have 4 so I if I use this tool more than a couple times a month it would be surprising. For me given the amount of use it’s a good choice.
2.0 out of 5 stars it is not of good quality
it is not of good quality
4.0 out of 5 stars Relative good value for the money.
The device itself is decent quality, I do t think it's going to break. The extra pins are great, but they are not the best quality. If your bracelet is difficult to remove and take many tries, it may break the pins. Not in half, just the tip where the groove is. But luckily it comes with 10 tips. I would recommend.
