5.0 out of 5 stars unit awesome...desktop software a little frustrating

    j.c. · 3 February 2025

(function(){ P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function'){ A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })() firstly this thing is a beast for playing out. the built in speakers , although polorizing, are a great additon for me. the venue i play at has the dj booth behind and to the side of the speakers so accurate monitoring can be challenging. the speakers on the unit add clarity and just a but more push so i know exactly what im doing, engine dj is fantastic on the unit itself. once you are familiar with the menus it becomes second nature very quickly. ive seen people complain that there is no mic eq but there is a whole section dedicated to it in the menu and even has adjustable talkover which is great for presenting games away from the unit and still having music running. i run off a 1tb sd card and although initial load takes a while im not surprised. its a lot of music to index but once done the search is quick and finds what i want every time. being able to use different sources at the same time is also a life save. i run beatport, Bolo music and tidal alongside my own libary and can jump between them without having to log in and out of each multiple times. the screen, although a little small, is crystal clear and not cramped at all. being able to configure the display exactly how you want is great too. ive played on the prime 4 as well and defenatly prefer the worckflow on this unit. the layout if more intuitive for me and easier to find things you need right at your fingertips. the addition of a hardrive bay would make this thing perfect. i have added a usb hub to the back corner with some velcro because the usb ports are fiddly to access if another dj is playing alongside me. this has worked perfectly and even djs with rekord box collections have been able to seemlessly jump on and have been surprised just how fun this is to use.the desktop software however is a bit frustrating to use. after the initial set up and analysing my libary and rendering out stems (this unit can do stems !!!) it manages the music well enough but adding new folders to the sync manager takes ages as the software insists on analysing the whole libary again instead of just letting me add 2 folders. im sure that this will be fixed in future revisions though as its something a lot of users on the forums are complaining about.i do recomend getting a case and screen protector for this as if looked after i think it will last me well for years. ive not had any of the issues that others have mentiond with weak faders bit time will have to tell with that.all in all its defenatly worth the investment. even with the slight niggles

I really wanted to like/love the Denon Sc Live 4 but unfortunately, it wasn’t for me.Firstly, the look of the product is a bit mixed. Overall, it looks and feels pretty good quality but a few things make the unit look really cheap and that’s the cue buttons above each channel and a few of the knobs look like something from a fisher price toy.I liked the look of the jog wheels and I liked the way they felt. I also liked the look of the eq section but that was a little squashed in compared to normal 4 channel mixer. The speakers do make it look a bit cheap, too.I found the channel crossfaders to be very stiff. Main Crossfader felt ok but I did notice alittle bit of sound bleed. If you pull the channel fader, all the way down, you shouldn’t hear nothing but if you kinda touch fader after pulling down, it will still continue to play the music at low volume.I did have this with very first mixer, I bought but that was 20 plus years ago, my first dj setup and it was very cheap. Mixer cost £50 so that was absolutely fine when I got sound bleed but that took many months, not straight out of the box. Then after that mixer I bout pioneer djm 600 and I used this most days for about 9 years and no sound bleed, whatsoever. The built in speakers sound ok if at low volume but if playing bass heavy music, the sound will distort. If you turn up bass too high, it sounds horrible. So if you was banking on these speakers sounding great and saving you from having to buy speakers, I would think again. Also, the unit vibrates strongly If you use built in speakers and imho it feels horrible when trying to mix.Another thing I really really didn’t like, the start/ cue buttons are extremely STIFF and even when pressing hard, it sometimes don’t work and when you have to press start right NOW without any delay, you constantly miss the drop. Just this alone, is absolutely a good enough reason to not want to keep this product. Absolutely horrible experience trying to simply drop the beat and start mixing.I only used this unit for less then 1 hour and I only used Bolo music to stream and that actually worked pretty well. This device is listed as standalone controller and you can mix without using a laptop BUT if you want to mix your own music, you absolutely WILL need a laptop or pc to run your songs through the engine desktop software. So no you don’t need a laptop but you do need 1 if you want to play your mown music. Some say that you can simply load songs onto a usb stick and start mixing and the description of this product leads you to believe the same but if you use this method, chances are your music will corrupt and you songs will not play.If you only plan on streaming, this won’t be a problem .I found the engine dj to be ok. Quite easy to use but to be honest, I’m an old school dj and I just like to slap a vinyl on turntable and mix it. Messing about constantly with touch screen, didn’t really do it for me and the touch screen itself, is rather small at about 7inches. If you have slightly poor vision, it will be a bit hard to read some text.Overall, very disappointed with this unit and I absolutely can not recommend it.I almost didn’t write this review, because most seem to love this product and I didn’t want to give customers doubts, as they may not end up buying but in the end, I decided to write a little review because I think it’s best to know what you are getting in to before buying and having to keep and be unhappy or have to mess about sending back.I’ve probably forgotten some things and if I remember anything important, I’ll update this review.

DENNON sc live 4 is a very powerful unit that packs some amazing features and has amazing sound quality with using other DENNON devices I had seen a lot of good reviews. After spending some time with it I’m very impressed with all the features and continue to find more like Bluetooth input with using pioneer dj equipment I found it easy to use and there’s many videos on social media to show you more- Great value for money and endless effects as a stand alone or virtual dj compatible I personally prefer to use it as a stand alone and great for live streaming, once you learn how to use it it’s very impressing

Everything feels ‘premium’ with this stand alone Dj unit. Speakers deliver true sound for the price point, with plenty of features to control your mix & effects and the ability to have a selection of deferent sources of music is a huge plus. I currently have Beatport as my music source and have encountered no issues so far with speed & sound quality. I have ordered the USB-DMX adaptor and I’m intrigued to see how my lighting performs via the built in software. So far I’ve been really impressed with this unit and I have still to tap into most of the features it has to offer.Well done Denon for offer a unit of this quality at this price point.
